Tomasz Emil Rudzik is born in 1979 on the polish-czech border in Cieszyn (Poland).
After spent childhood and high school in Cologne/Germany, he absolves his community service as janitor and DJ in a day care center for the elderly. 1999-2001 follows a study of Cultural Science-, American- and Polish Studies at the Humboldt University in Berlin.
In 2001 Rudzik begins his film studies at the University of Television and Film in Munich (Directing Department of Cinema and Television) and finishes with his feature DESPERADOS ON THE BLOCK. The film gets invited into Kutxa-New Directors Competition at 57th San Sebastian International Film Festival and starts a festival career with numerous national and international awards.
In 2010 Tomasz E. Rudzik becomes an Ekran master student of Andrzej Wajda, Wojciech Marczewski and Krzysztof Zanussi at the Andrzej Wajda Master School in Warsaw. There he discoveres his passion for screenwriting.
Inspired by this experience, he gets accepted to 22. Script Factory Munich (2010/2011) and develops the screenplay for his second feature AGNIESZKA.
AGNIESZKA celebrates its German premiere at the prestigious 48th Hof International Film Festival and gets invited into Competition of the 30.Warsaw Film Festival.
In spring 2015 Tomasz E. Rudzik receives the renowned Bavarian Film Prize for “Best New Director”. His actress Karolina Gorczyca gets pre-nominated “Best Main Actress” for German Film Awards 2015.
In may 2017 Rudzik absolves the 20. International Screenwriters Workshop & Master Class eQuinoxe Europe in Balestrand, Norway with one of his next cinema projects BLACK MADONNA.
In 2019 he contributes an episode to THE LOVE EUROPE PROJECT, which is awarded the Grimme-Prize for Best Fiction in 2020.
In 2021 Rudzik directes the ZDF Herzkino film SUMMER IN ISTRIA. In 2022 he launches the new ZDF primetime film series UNDER THE APPLE TREE, where he directes both the pilot and the second episode for the highly coveted Sunday evening slot.
In the spring of 2024 he followes up with the rbb Polizeiruf PIGS, where Rudzik serves as both director and screenwriter in the writers’ room. With 8.08 million viewers and an impressive market share of 28.1%, the Polizeiruf broadcast achieves its highest reach in one year.
Currently Tomasz E. Rudzik is working on follow-up projects as both director and writer for cinema and television.
